Interesting KBIO......does the mesh condense the steam so filling up the de-oiler water condensate?
I experienced too much condensate so have revised the exhaust to 1/4" OD K&S brass tubing with a 0.014" wall
The final exhaust not reaches 150mm toward the top of and external to the chimney
I am awaiting a few joints to make & fittings to secure before I trial this
Derek......PS I have finally found the way to post an image here

Derek!
I am glad that you succeed to insert a photo!!
I have a teasing feeling this morning!
To answer to your question, the mesh is just here as a decoration.
Kind of anti-ashes screen, but it has no utility at all.
As I (always) say, a steam machine hates back up pressure or restriction of any kind in the oulet.
Looking at your set up, I am not surprised that you produce condensate, although a good insulation which ables the steam to be carried away.
I don't want to look as a "bad boy", but we have a tendency to have a lemming instinct when we put our nose in this business.
One install a condenser, we all do so, and so on.
Some time we do wrong, but sometime ... with a bit of common sense, we are right! Or at least, not too wrong!!
I love your installation!
Cheers.
